Introduction
You've made it - you've been appointed a manager! Congratulations! But now? First impressions count? Yes, of course! The first few days as a manager are an important foundation stone, so prepare yourself well!
Of course, it also makes a difference whether you already know your team because you have been developed from a colleague to a manager, for example, or whether the team is completely new. But the success factors for the start are almost always the same!
1. the first day
Ideally, your boss will support you on your first day and introduce you. Think about your first words to the team, but please don't overdo it! Stay authentic and tell them something about yourself!
Organize an introductory party to get to know each other and loosen up the atmosphere.
2. meet the team
Get to know your team and conduct a personal interview with each employee. Think about questions that show an honest interest in the employees and that you can also use to get to know the team and the department. We have a few examples for you:
- How long have you been with the company?
- What did you do before?
- What are your activities?
- What do you enjoy most?
- If I were to ask your colleagues about your strengths, what would they say?
- What was your best day at this company?
- What are the biggest challenges you are currently facing?
- What are your goals for this year?
- What expectations do you have of me?
- If you were in my shoes, what would be the first thing you would change?
- Employees may also want to talk about their private lives.
3rd team workshop
Hold a team workshop after the first 100 days. Here you can agree rules together with your team, define roles and responsibilities, present new visions and goals, get to know each other even better and simply have fun.
Listen actively! Many employees are simply grateful when a manager takes the time to listen. But be careful: don't make any promises and don't start off with too grand visions. In the first 100 days, simply get some input, ask your employees for their opinion, win them over and build trust!
